Comte de Chambord
Artwork in progress. The ‘Comte de Chambord’ was the first in a new collection of Artworks I began working on last year, produced for a series of talks I presented for the RHS. Larger than any of my previous Botanical Illustrations, and despite the initial trepidations of the scale it was an absolute joy to work on.
I work on a hot pressed paper, which I find is a really smooth base for my hyper-real Illustrations, and by choosing a fairly heavy weight it holds the pigment of paint really well. Working in mixed media, of Gouache and Pencil Crayon, I find this gives a strong depth of colour, but also allows me to work in the tremendous detail which I am so deeply passionate about.
