Botanical Art has long been a passion of mine and whilst I enjoy all the hours spent in my studio, it’s been an absolute delight to share with people that attend my events and workshops some of the skills I have learnt along the way. I have given presentations all around the UK in a variation of conferences and shows, and I look forwards to doing more of them.
The Botanical Illustration workshops are proving to be a success with a seemingly growing trend for this gentle yet complex dichotomy of art. Over the past few years I have been fortunate enough to teach in some fabulous locations. As much as I’m thrilled to hold the slightly more serious day courses, it’s been wonderful to teach the next generation of artist’s in my children’s classes.
The children’s classes include a brief look at the Artist’s taken on Darwin’s expeditions and how to produce accurate studies from still life. My mini adventurers are always enthused with a fun approach to look at Art and plants and explore the details within them. This year I held my first Botanical Illustration Party for a small group of under 6’s. We had an idyllic English sunny afternoon in the garden and finished off with some rather fun apple bobbing. Looking ahead, the regular Botanical Illustration classes will still continue at the Truro Art Company, with event dates still to be confirmed.
However exciting news for 2017 will see the launch of ‘The Secret Atelier of Botanical Illustration’. This will be smaller Art groups of more intimate classes held in secret locations. Where you will have much more of an opportunity to gain one to one teaching, in a relaxed environment. Artists on receipt of their booking will be given a private invitation to the location for this unique experience. Watch this space……
